Peter Ryder

Peter is a highly respected FE consultant with 16 years of experience in CEO and principal positions. During this time, he successfully led college turnarounds and mergers, estate strategies, curriculum reforms and stakeholder relationship development, resulting in Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ ratings for finance, leadership and governance.

Prior to forming Rockborn with his business partner, Nic, Peter was CEO of the Greater Manchester College Group (GMCG). He held responsibility for providing a strategic focus for FE in the county, working with government, the combined authority and other agencies and large companies. His key achievements in post include establishing the GMCG brand, being the strategic lead during Wave 1 of the Area Reviews, supporting the development of the Greater Manchester Apprenticeship & Careers Service, and chairing the ‘Efficiency Sub-Group’, in which he led 10 colleges on the implementation of numerous initiatives and the sharing of good practice. 

Other notable achievements during Peter’s leadership tenure include: moving success rates from the bottom to top quartile nationally; developing surpluses in each financial year despite significant funding cuts; developing and implementing branding, marketing and communications for a newly merged college; and leading a college from a failed Ofsted inspection to ‘Good with Outstanding Features’ in just three years, with leadership described as ‘Outstanding’.
